a Youth Forum of the formal youth constituency to United Nations Convention to Combat Desertification (UNCCD).
From 7 September - 8 September 2019, young people from different parts of world with gather in New Delhi, India for the second Desertification Youth Forum being held in conjunction with the 14th Conference of Parties (COP14) of the UNCCD. WHAT IS UNCCD? HOW DOES IT ENGAGE STAKEHOLDERS?
United Nations Convention to Combat Desertification (UNCCD) is one of the three conventions, together with the UNFCCC and UNCBD, the process for which was initiated at the Rio Earth Summit 1992, together with adoption of Agenda 21. UNCCD itself was adopted in 1994. Its primary areas of focus are desertification and land degradation, with several further layers of thematic focus such as Land & Human Security, Droughts, and Climate Change. It is an intergovernmental process, which has biennial Conference of Parties (COP), bringing together world governments to negotiate and take action on issues related to Desterfication. The next COP (COP14) will take place in New Delhi, India in from 2 September 2019 - 13 September 2019 .
FORMALISING CHILDREN AND YOUTH CONSTITUENCY TO UNCCD
Young people have been participating withing the processes of United Nations for several years. As such, youth organisations have been working in 2019 toward formalizing institutional youth engagement to UNCCD, called the "Global Youth Caucus on Desertification and Land" - the UNCCD Major Group for Children and Youth. Youth and youth organisations who are involved in issues related to desertification, land-use, forests, and related matters, are invited to join the Caucus.
DESERTIFICATION YOUTH FORUM, NEW DELHI - INDIA
The Caucus will be convening its first official gathering in New Delhi in conjunction with the UNCCD COP14 to bring together youth advocates from different parts of world, to build their capacity, share knowledge, build networks and to engage them meaningfully in the UNCCD processes.
